Very close to the Caminito del Rey hiking trail is an ancient place of worship, the ruins of Bobastro<\/a>. A place steeped in history in the middle of nature with interesting archaeological sights. The entrance fee is only a few euros, and you can then enjoy a walk to the ruins in a small group with explanations from a trained guide. Admission usually every hour.<\/p>\n\n

The rebuilding of Bobastro<\/strong> Castle, which dates back to Roman times, was commissioned in 880 by Omar Ben Hafsun, a Goth who had converted to Islam and was a descendant of Count Altfuns. Bobastro was his main defense position against the Emir of C\u00f3rdoba. After he converted to Christianity in 899, a church was also built in Bobastro. The church is the only one of Mozarabic origin in this area, the former Al-\u00c1ndalus.<\/p>\n\n

After his exile in Africa due to his rebellion against the Moors, Ben Hafsun sought refuge in the Roman ruins. He took the castle as the capital of the kingdom that was established in the south of Andalusia and founded numerous companies, making him an outstanding example throughout Andalusia.<\/p>\n\n

After his death in the 9th century, his sons Chafar, Soleiman and Hafs took over the rule of his kingdom. In 928, it was conquered by Abd ar-Rahman III, who had numerous fortresses and smaller castles built in its vicinity in order to narrow the siege ring of the fortress and castle. The fortress was destroyed immediately afterwards.<\/p>\n\n
